- Admins should excercise their power as little as possible at all times, and always with the goal of making the game fairer and more fun for other players on the server.
/callvote is the preferred method of dealing with problem users, however there are times when callvote isn't appropriate.
- Players can be identified by name, IP or player number, but the server will always ban by IP and GUID (if they have one). Kicking or banning by player number is usually the easiest and most unambiguous.
- The server keeps track of the name(s), IP address and GUID of every player that connected in the current game, even after they quit. It's supposed to still apply a ban even if they quit before the end of a vote but that's not working, so until this is sorted out a manual !kick if they come back is allowed. The kick reason should be whatever the original vote was for, not 'avoiding vote'.
- Use !namelog to figure out who's who. There are often multiple users from a single IP, and it's a good way to spot abusers that quit and come back with a different name.
- If any player avoids a ban by changing their IP, let zcat(1) know ingame or by email. I can look up the address block their ISP uses and ban the entire range if necessary.
- !putteam is recommended for
- Moving yourself or players that have asked to be moved.
- Moving an AFK player to spec.
- Balancing the teams by number when nobody will do so volentarily.
As an admin you are expected to move yourself before another
player in this situation. Also note this does not apply to the
end of match senario where teams will normally not be balanced.
- !kick is recommended for
- Kicking AFK specs on a full server.
- Kicking players who are behaving maliciously (deliberate deconning or tking) in the game AFTER you have warned them.
- Kicking players who dodge !mute by renaming themselves.
- !mute is recommended for
- Excessive or annoying bindspam.
- Begging for admin.
- Being a jerk in chat. Swearing is OK if it's not upsetting anyone, namecalling and hurtful comments are not OK.
